Peggy Hernandez, the teacher at U-46's Planetarium for the last 15 years, remembers watching an eclipse when she was a student at U-46's Tefft Middle School in Streamwood. This year, she helped lead the effort to turn Monday's solar eclipse into a learning opportunity for thousands of students in the District. "I think this is my Super Bowl. I think this is a culmination of a career of working with children," she told NBC Chicago. "I absolutely think that (the eclipse) will get students, children, adults, everyone, more interested in space." #WeAreU46 #U46Proud #U46Alumni #U46Eclipse

Students held small group discussions focused on specific topics such as attendance, school safety, post-secondary resources, and more. The students also heard from U-46 Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Annette Acevedo, and ECC President Dr. Sam. The ideas discussed today will help shape the future of the U-46 learning community. #WeAreU46

For 85 U-46 high schoolers, this spring break is a time to consider what the future might hold for them at a Historically Black College and University. The students and 11 chaperones left early this morning for a tour of eight HBCUs, with the first stop being Tennessee State University in Nashville. All five of U-46's comprehensive high schools - Streamwood, South Elgin, Larkin, Elgin, and Bartlett - were represented, and the DREAM Academy, too. To read during the trip, U-46's Department of Equity and Innovation gifted each student with a copy of "HBCU Made: A Celebration of the Black College Experience," edited by NPR's Ayesha Rascoe. #equity #diversity #HBCU #HBCUtour2024 #HBCU46 #WeAreU46
